The Sacramento Zoo, located at William Land Park in Sacramento, California first opened its doors on June 2, 1927 with forty animals including raccoons, birds, monkeys and deer. It originally sat on only four point two acres of land but expanded to fourteen point three acres in the early 1960’s. At last count, in December of 2012, there were over five hundred animals on the property.
